The solve hall

Every question, solved in the open

The arena trains you to attempt first. This hall is what you read AFTER the attempt: 105 worked walkthroughs, every problem in the bank, none skipped. Each one is a transcript of an honest solve — not a recipe to memorize, a way of moving through a problem you can replay on anything.

How to read a solve (the honest order)

  1. Attempt the problem first. A walkthrough read before a real attempt is entertainment, not learning — the struggle is the encoding.
  2. Read "the wall" carefully. Knowing why the obvious approach fails is worth more than the trick that replaces it.
  3. Re-derive "the turn" from the wall. Cover the rest and ask: given that failure, what WOULD have to be true?
  4. Do the dry run yourself on paper, then confirm against the trace line.
  5. Close the tab and re-solve tomorrow. Recall beats re-reading — the arena's judge is still there for the fingers.

The five moves, once more

Restate — say what is really being asked, in structure terms (which world is this?). The wall — write the obvious approach and say exactly why it fails; walls are made of time, memory or impossibility. The turn — the one reframe that removes the wall, always paid for by a property you can name. The build — the algorithm as a loop plus invariants, not as memorized lines. The check — complexity, and the correctness argument in one sentence. Then: the dry run, the edges, the follow-ups, and the transfer — the pattern this problem was hiding.
